District Championships 2008

shepshed swimming club poolA huge congratulations to Matt Wright and Mark Crook Rumsey for representing their club and county at this years district championships held at Coventry. The pair had just one race on Saturday (which was also the last of the session) but despite a long wait at a hot pool, both PB’d in their heats and qualified through to the finals (Mark in the 15/16yrs, Matt in the 17/18yrs)!!!! This was a huge achievement in itself, but not enough for the boys who then both PB’d again in the finals, Mark getting under 28seconds and Matt also getting a bronze medal!!!

Back again on the Sunday, both boys had 100m fly early on, and Mark also had 50m FC later in the session. Both again swam brilliant races, and Matt got yet another PB and qualified into the 17/18yrs final as well! In the 50m FC Mark put in a gutsy performance, PB’ing automatically as it was the first time he swam the event long course! Another brilliant swim. Matt then had the 100m fly final in the afternoon and put in another fantastic performance!!

A massive well done to both boys! It was a very long weekend, but they both swam like true professionals :) As one of very few Leicestershire clubs at the district championships, both boys did both their club and their county proud!

Suzi :)
