Annual Gala 2011 (TM Report)

  • Annual gala 11&18/06/2011
  • Following on from the memorial gala was our annual gala which is the most important gala for our club swimmers.
  • Expectations were high after our recent gala’s and all our swimmers stepped up to the mark with over 150 PB’s over the two weeks with boys clocking up 74 and the girls tipping the balance with 79. This does not include those times that were set in the heats and then improved on in the finals, so a great achievement from all the swimmers and credit to all the hard work put in during training by the swimmers and coaching staff.
  • There were so many brilliant swims over the two weeks from all our swimmers and some really exiting races where just finger tips separated first from second and this created a really good atmosphere which the swimmers fed off.
  • I am sure everybody at the gala’s will take away their own special memories and recall which specific events created that nail biting tension for them but I have to say there were two swimmers that I feel deserve a special mention.
  • For the girls Beth Tomlinson who swept the board in the girls 14&U age group and for the boys Alex Callender who did the same in the 12&U and in the process beat two club records in the freestyle and backstroke and set a new record for the 50 fly.
  • A great achievement from all the swimmers and I am sure we are all looking forward to the presentation evening for some fun and frolics and collecting those well-earned trophies.
  • Have a great time and look forward to seeing everyone there.
  • Steve
